In the morning of July 19th, 2008, the Chinese Foundation for Lifeline Express held the Start Off Ceremony of "2008 Lifeline Express Car Expedition to Xinjiang" at Hua Ling Hotel in Urumqi, Xinjiang. Mr. Eddy Lee, Chairman of Lee Kum Kee Company Limited, Mr. Charlie Lee, Director of Lee Kum Kee Company Limited, and Mr. Daniel Saw, President of Lee Kum Kee (China) Trading Limited attended the event. Eddy has participated in this fund-raising expedition for four consecutive years.
At the Start Off Ceremony, all participants expressed their sympathy and concern of the Sichuan earthquake. Subsequent to the disaster on May 12th, the Lee Kum Kee Group has made an accumulative donation of over RMB 20 million in cash and product to the victims. Of these, the donations from staff of Lee Kum Kee's sauce business division around the world account for RMB 700,000. As a responsible corporate citizen, the company matched staff contributions dollar for dollar by giving RMB 700,000. On behalf of Lee Kum Kee, Mr. Eddy Lee and Mr. Charlie Lee presented a cheque amounted to RMB 700,000 to Mr. Tian Jiyu, former Executive Vice-Minister of Ministry of Public Security, and Mrs. Nellie Fong, Founding Chairman of Lifeline Express Hong Kong Foundation, for rehabilitation of Sichuan. |
